Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
