On the eve of his half-decade plus one year as manager, Mikel Arteta has made it clear that his longevity in North London is directly connected to winning major honors.
Reflecting on: Six Years in Charge
The Spanish coach took over on 20 December 2019 and soon guided the team to an FA Cup victory not long after. Yet, that first major trophy stands as his sole major honor since succeeding Unai Emery.
“I can,” Arteta responded upon being asked about staying beyond 2027. “Yet it's about today. And many things have to happen in the near future as well to deserve that opportunity.”

The Current Landscape

Regardless of the availability issues and the intense pressure, Arteta is confident the club's “priorities and messaging” are profoundly distinct from when he initially took over.
He pointed to the record-breaking achievements as evidence of progress. “Examine the performances, all the club records that were shattered... We still haven't been able to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the standard we operate at.”
Arteta concluded, “It represents a quality that the Premier League has never experienced in the past. And our aim is to achieve greater objectives. And if we do that, I think we are on the proper course to winning.”
