Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Police Continue Search for Gunman.

Two students who died in the weekend's mass shooting on the university campus had tributes paid to them on Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their killer continued following the release by local law enforcement of the sole person of interest in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The student Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies on social media, saying in part: “There are no words. Remembering her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the renowned school, according to relatives.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

Nine more persons were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man detained in a raid at a lodging about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our city”.

The assailant began shooting inside a room in the building on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the Associated Press.

Law enforcement that searched the hotel found two handguns and magazines when the person of interest was detained, as was reported.

Condition of the Injured

Of the nine hurt, one pupil was discharged from care, stated Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by Umurzokov’s death in a statement. “We extend our sincere condolences to the Umurzokov family, loved ones, and fellow students and grieve for of his promising future.”
